2027 Federal due dates for business owners
These are the 2027 Federal deadlines that apply to most self-employed (Schedule C), partnership (Form 1065), and small S corporation (Form 1120-S) clients, covering 2026 returns and 2027 estimated payments. Dates that land on a weekend are shown on the next business day. Indiana estimated payments are due on the same dates as the Federal payments. Not sure which dates apply to you? Send us a message and we will confirm.

Q4 estimated tax payment

W-2s, 1099-NECs, and Form 941
Send W-2s to employees and 1099-NEC forms to contractors, and file them with the IRS. The Q4 payroll tax return (Form 941) is also due. The usual January 31 date falls on a Sunday.
Other 1099s filed with the IRS
Forms 1099 other than the 1099-NEC are due to the IRS March 1 on paper (February 28 is a Sunday) or March 31 electronically. Deadlines vary by form, so check with us.
Form 1065 and Form 1120-S due
File the 2026 partnership or S corporation return, or file an extension. K-1s go to partners and shareholders. An extension moves the deadline to September 15.
S corporation election (Form 2553)
To be an S corporation for all of 2027, Form 2553 is generally due 2 months and 15 days into the tax year. Missed it? Late-election relief may be available, so reach out.
Schedule C filing and Q1 tax payment due
Self-employed? File your 2026 Form 1040 with Schedule C, or an extension, and pay any tax owed. An extension to file is not an extension to pay. The first-quarter 2027 estimate (Indiana and Federal) is also due.

Quarterly payroll tax return for January through March, for businesses with employees.
Q2 estimated tax payment
Second estimated payment for 2027. Indiana and Federal estimates are due the same day.

Extended Form 1065 and Form 1120-S due
Final deadline for extended 2026 partnership and S corporation returns and K-1s. The third-quarter 2027 estimate (Indiana and Federal) is also due.
Extended Form 1040 with Schedule C due
Final deadline to file an extended 2026 individual return. Payment was still due in April. SEP IRA and employer retirement plan contributions are due by your business return’s due date, including extensions.
Q3 payroll tax return (Form 941)
Quarterly payroll tax return for July through September. The usual October 31 date falls on a Sunday.
Year-end tax moves

S corporation owners: review payroll, reasonable compensation, and accountable plan reimbursements before year-end. Reach out and we can review what makes sense for you.
